Through Broken Mirrors

Taking part in aLAF for the first time are the The Lady Birds, the young women's group of BeLonG To Youth Project that was set up in the summer of 2005. 'Through Broken Mirrors' is an exhibition of artworks by The Lady Birds, which will be on show in the Red Room of OUThouse from April 1st to 8th.

The works in the exhibition explore themes of 'Escapism' and 'Maps and Journeys', with an emphasis on ideas emerging from traditional fairytales, labels and stereotypes, and life stages or milestones. Works include drawing, painting, photography, print, works on fabric and sculptural pieces, and reflect both the personal experience of individuals from the group, as well as ideas that emerged from group discussions about the experience of being young and lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

The exhibition will be opened with a performance by ZRAZY at 6pm on Saturday April 1st, and the first issue of Girls Into Girls (GIG) magazine, a creation of The Lady Birds, will also be launched on that evening.
